The role

The  ITC for molecular diagnostics is the first Innovation and Technology Centre in OSCAR. The ITC for molecular diagnostics is co-led by Prof. Wei Huang and Prof. Zhanfeng Cui, aiming at developing rapid, portable and easy-use diagnostic tools for medicine, environment and food safety. ITC will create an interface platform of biology and engineering, building upon our advanced science and technology on novel nucleic acid amplification, biosensors and antigen/antibody interactions, microfluidic device, and single cell Raman phenotypic profiling. The research scientist in ITC will be working on development of diagnostic kits for rapid detection of infectious diseases, cancer, environmental pollutants or food additives, etc. and validation of the reagents using clinical samples.  The center is co-funded by Prenetics, it is expected the researchers in the Prenetics ITC will spend a certain time a year at the University of Oxford, UK, to conduct the collaborative research.

Areas of Research

OSCAR is recruiting talented and motivated researchers with experience in at least one of the following:

  • Clinical microbiology/virology
  • Molecular biology
  • Bioinformatics
  • Immunology/lateral flow test
  • Lab-on-a-chip/microfluidics
  • Biochemistry/enzymology
  • Medical device design and prototyping
  • IVD Regulatory affairs

 

Responsibilities

 Conduct research activities as agreed with the PIs and senior members of the centre

  • Maintain records of experiments and research data
  • Write scientific papers and technical reports
  • Liaison with funders and potential users
  • Present to external collaborators and to conferences
  • Supervise Research Engineers
  • Prepare grant applications
  • Supervise team members

Selection criteria

Essential

  • PhD or equivalent in the specified discipline
  • Strong track records in the relevant research areas
  • Good English in speaking and writing
  • Postdoctoral research experience or equivalent research experience
  • Strong publication record and/or innovation track record
  • Good management and presentation skills
  • Experience in supervision

Desirable

  • Relevant industrial experience
  • Team player and good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel in and outside China
