Hong Chang

Senior Research Scientist

In July, Dr. Hong Chang joined OSCAR as a Senior Research Scientist in OSCAR-Prenetics Innovation and Technology Centre for Advanced Diagnostics.

Before joining OSCAR, Dr. Chang was Chief Technology Officer and QA/RA manager at MEStar (Oxford spin-out technology company) and is experienced in obtaining CE/MHRA, ISO13485 application approval and maintaining QMS system. She was heavily involved in development of the rapid test kit for COVID-19 created by Prof. Zhanfeng Cui, Prof. Wei Huang and their teams. She participated in early lab-based research at Oxford’s IBME and was instrumental in demonstrating compliance and seeking regulatory approval. her contribution helped the test kit, Oxsed RaVid Direct, gain its CE mark in early July 2020.

Dr. Chang completed her doctoral degrees in Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London. She undertook a postdoctoral position in The Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IMBE) at the University of Oxford. Her research there involved fabrication of corsslinked protein membranes in microfluidics channel  for use as 3D cell culture.

After completing her postdoctoral research at Oxford, Dr. Chang started developing her career in industry area, specialist in In-vitro diagnostic medical devices. She has been involved in  biomedical product design and development at all stages.

Wei Li

Research Scientist

Wei Li joined OSCAR ITC for Advanced Molecular Diagnostics in Oct. 2022. He received his B.S. and M.Phil. degrees in biomedical engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2009 and 2011, respectively. In 2022, he was awarded another M.Phil. degree in computer science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research topic at HKUST is the multilingual document vectorization model and the cross-lingual knowledge transfer in deep neural networks.

Wei previously served as the senior research engineer of NUANCE, Shanghai R&D, the tech director (algorithm) of First Imaging Medical Equipment, and the chief data scientist of Louis Investment Management. In NUANCE, he was responsible for speech-NLU integrated solutions/SDK for automobile manufacturers (BMW, Volkswagen). In First Imaging, Wei’s team was responsible for the ‘Machine learning-based Post-processing Framework for CT Images.’ In Louis Investment Management, Wei’s team was responsible for the ‘Deep-learning-based Stock Price Forecasting Models.’ After joining OSCAR, Wei’s research will focus on the machine learning framework for Raman microspectroscopy signal reconstruction and sequence-to-sequence models for therapeutic science.
