The Role

  • The job is responsible for supporting the Director in the management and operation of OSCAR with focus on developing and managing research strategy and activities within the Centre and external academic relationships with the key stakeholders, including industry, universities and research institutions. Under the guidance of the Director, the post holder will coordinate and maintain research activities and promote internal and external collaborations. The post holder will also identify and develop grant funding opportunities, research relationships and industrial collaboration alongside more general operational and administrative support to the Director.

Responsibilities

  • Assist OSCAR Director to oversee and make research strategy, assist to coordinate research themes among research groups, review and update research plans annually.
  • Under the direction and supervision of the Director, develop proposals for the development of research programs and research collaboration opportunities for senior academics (‘PIs’) and researchers in OSCAR as well as with other research partners and collaborators.
  • Identify key stakeholders across UK government, industry and counterpart universities and maintain relevant records, databases and reports on these.
  • Coordinate OSCAR’s interactions across the University of Oxford, among Director, PIs, the Research Services Office, the MPLS Division, departments, OUI, etc. 
  • Under the direction of the Director, attend meetings and events to represent the Director and/or on behalf of OSCAR and its interests.
  • Be able to have business trips either in UK, China or where needed.
  • Others as specified by the Director.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Science or Engineering and proven experience of research and administration in educational or research environment.
  • Excellent in both writing and speaking English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an understanding of scientific research.
  • Excellent presentation skills to act as the ambassador of OSCAR.
  • Good organization skills combined with excellent administrative abilities and a capacity to prioritize complex and competing demands in a busy working environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in supporting Director related to research strategies.

Desirable

  • PhD in Science and Engineering or related disciplines
  • Communication skills in Chinese
